Office Closure 22 February 2012

Layburn Hodgins will be closed from 12:30 pm 22 February 2012 to allow our staff to attend memorial services.  Our thoughts are always with those, who lost lives on this day.

The last 12 months has been very challenging for us, particularly for our staff and valued clients who live to the east and have broken homes.

We take this opportunity to thank our staff and our clients, for all of your support.  We are looking forward to a very busy next 12 months.

Kia Kaha Christchurch.

We are Moving!

We are pleased to announce that our 'camping days' are over!  As of 14 November 2011, we will be moving to brand new premises at Level 1, 47 Montreal Street, Christchurch.

We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to TL Jones Ltd, who kindly allowed us to share their premises, following the February earthquake.

The Christchurch Courts

The Court Buildings on Durham Street were badly affected by the February earthquake and require extensive rectification. As a result, Court Hearings are currently being held at various unusual locations including the Wigram Airforce Museum, Elmwood tennis courts, Addington raceway and the Nga Hau E Wha Marae.

The Courts ask litigants for patience as they deal with matters as quickly as the circumstances now allow.

Amanda Fitzgibbon

Our Associate Amanda Fitzgibbon has returned from maternity leave after the birth of her first born. Resuming her role in our litigation department for two days each week, Amanda looks forward to assisting our family and criminal law clients again.

Newest Hornby Lawyers

We were enjoying our recently renovated offices in the Public Trust Building on Oxford Terrace at the time of the February earthquake. However, many of you will be aware that in 2009 we had temporarily relocated to Armagh Street so that the historic Public Trust Building could be renovated and earthquake strengthened. Happily, although well shaken by the earthquakes since February 2011 we can report that the Public Trust Building is in good health and will only require minor repairs to return to its prior glory.

However, before our return to the Public Trust Building, the neighbouring Clarendon Towers must be repaired or demolished. As with many buildings in the CBD the time line on that is unknown.

In the meantime, we are gratefully sharing the offices of TL Jones Limited at 46b Halwyn Drive, Hornby. Our office space and resources are limited and so we ask for your patience as we meet with you in circumstances which are out of the ordinary.

Farewell Richard

Sadly, we have had to say farewell to Layburn Hodgins Partner Richard McGuire as he moves to a new role in the Public Defenders Service. It has been a real pleasure to work with Richard - his expertise, energy and sense of humour has enriched our work lives for the last nine years. Needless to say, we wish Richard and his family all the best for the future.
