Trevor Quirk

Trevor has practiced law for many years, having graduated from the University of Canterbury in 1975 with a Bachelor of Laws.

A keen traveller, snowboarder and part-time stonemason, Trevor's daily habits are Tai Chi Chuan and swimming.

His smiling face and enthusiasm for the law have endeared him to clients over his years of practice.

John Abbott

John graduated from the University of Canterbury in 1989 with a Bachelor of Laws. He initially practised on the West Coast and he gained a variety of experience in the litigation area. He moved to Christchurch in 1993 and managed a suburban law office before joining Layburn Hodgins as an Associate in 2000. He became a Partner of the firm April 2002.

John now operates a Commercial and Property Practice, and is also experienced in Matrimonial and De Facto Property matters.

Coming from a rural background John has maintained his interest in matters rural, and outside of work his wide-ranging interests include flying light aircraft, tramping, fishing and the occasional cricket match.

Duncan Macintyre

Duncan Macintyre joined Layburn Hodgins as an Associate after many years in private legal practice with another Christchurch Law Firm. Prior to practicing in Christchurch, he had spent some years in Timaru providing legal advice to Local Authorities and Port Authorities. He become a partner in 2004.

Property transactions, in particular subdivisions, business law, financing, leasing, immigration and family trusts form the core of Duncan’s practice. He has over the years provided advice to a large number of Asian clients and is well respected in the Korean community.

Duncan is a keen sportsman, especially in the martial art of Jujitsu. He is married with two sons who are also keen on sports

Richard McGuire

Richard graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Laws in 1991 and commenced practice in Christchurch. After several years of general legal experience, Richard moved to London to travel and for further work opportunities. There he worked for Masons Solicitors, a specilaist Construction Litigation firm. Following his return to Christchurch in 1996 he continued general practice with emphasis on Litigation.

Richard came to Layburn Hodgins in January 2002. He is a Partner of the firm and practices predominately in the areas of Civil, Criminal, Family and Employment work. Richard is currently president of the Canterbury Criminal Bar Assocation.

Richard enjoys all sports with a particular emphasis on cricket, having played club cricket for High School Old Boys and the Willows Cricket Club since leaving high school. He has also been involved in administrative areas of cricket with the High School Old Boys Club and the Canterbury Cricket Assocation. Richard's other interests include skiing, classic/vintage and motor racing.

Susie Tait

Susie joined the Layburn Hodgins litigation team in 2006 specialising in Family Law in particular matters of parenting, guardianship, adoption, surrogacy, domestic violence and relationship property.  This oftens includes associated advice regarding trusts and property matters in general.  Susie is also experienced in all aspects of employment law including personal grievances, mediations, investigation meetings, restructuring, disciplinary issues, compliance advice and employment agreements.

Susie is devoted to her family and friends. She enjoys (but never has enough time for) golf, tennis, running, and travelling to exotic destinations - and instead settles for early morning walks with her dog.

Amanda Fitzgibbon

Amanda joined the Layburn Hodgins Litigation team in 2007 specialising in Family Law and Criminal Law.

Amanda graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2004 with a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Arts and has practiced in Christchurch since graduating.

Amanda has experience in areas including Property, Civil, Mental Health Law, Family Law - including day to day care and contact, guardianship, adoption, domesti voilence, and relationship property, Criminal Law and Traffic Law including Limited Licences.

Out of the office Amanda is a keen Multsports and spends her spare time running, cycling and kayaking.

Daniel Quirk

We welcome Daniel back after a 4 year absense while on his OE.

While in London Daniel worked as an Ivestigations Examiner at the Official Receivers Office investigating misconduct in personal and corporate insovlency, a role which complimented his commercial law background.  Daniel returned to the Commercial team at Layburn Hodgins to focus on commercial and residential conveyancing.

Away from work Daniel interests include Snowboarding.

Lisa Donnelly

Lisa joined Layburn Hodgins in January 2004 in the role of Trust Accountant.  She now manages Layburn Hodgins and has worked in the legal industry since leaving school.

Lisa deals with the Trust Account, Firm Account, Creditors, Debtors, Nominee Company and all Administrative Duties to ensure the Firm runs smoothly.

Lisa has 2 children.  Her time at work and with the children keeps her busy.  Lisa is Chariperson for Addington School Board of Trustees and a Member of the Canterbury Mustang Owners Club.
